The 4 Types Of Web Hosting Accounts

You have an idea for new website. You know that in order to share it with the world you have to host it somewhere. When you start looking around for a web hosting company you will find that there are four basic types of web hosting accounts.
You can choose from shared hosting, a reseller account, a virtual private server, or your own dedicated server. Which type you choose for hosting your website will depend on your specific needs and plans for the future but most web hosting companies will offer all four.
This is the most basic of the hosting accounts and the type of account that most new webmasters started with. Generally speaking this is a low priced, entry level hosting accounts and a web hosting company will try to squeeze as many as they can onto a server. All of the resources of the server are shared between all of the accounts, hence the name. These accounts are rarely suitable for your business but are a great option at the price for a hobby site or something that you are doing just for fun.
This is an account that was originally designed for those people who wanted to start their own web hosting company and includes the software necessary to host websites for other people. Many business owners who have more than one website also choose this type of account because they can host all of their websites in one place. The downside of this is that most reseller web hosting accounts are just shared hosting accounts with higher space and bandwidth limits. You still have the problem of shared resources.
Virtual private server, is a special type of hybrid account. It lies somewhere between shared hosting and a dedicated server, giving you most of the benefits of both and eliminating many of the limitations. A web hosting company will divide a server into a finite number of parts, each of those parts will be a VPS and receive an equal share of the resources. So you will have most of the benefits of a dedicated server at a price more comparable to shared hosting.
This is the luxury model of hosting accounts. The entire server is yours. You have access to all of the resources, RAM, and bandwidth. Nothing is shared with anyone else. The only real drawback to a dedicated server is the cost. Since you’re utilizing the entire server, you will be paying for the entire server.
Those are your four basic choices when you go looking for a home for your new website. Most web hosting companies offer you all four choices and possibly some variations of their own. You will be choosing between shared hosting, a reseller account, a virtual private server, or your own dedicated server. Look over the specifications for each type of account at your chosen web hosting company to get a better idea of which type of web hosting account will work best for your site.
